August!

I’ve been tasked with writing a song about current events for a new performance series called The Current, taking place at Little Skips on August 3rd, curated by Deenah Vollmer and Susan Hwang. Like many people, I have strong opinions about the state of this country and in the months since the election, have sought to find ways to feel like I’m proactively resisting the Trump agenda. I have tried writing overtly political songs in the past but they’ve always fallen flat so I’ve tended to keep my socially conscious efforts separate from songwriting. That said, I am really excited to be challenged to write a political song for this show. Lots of great people participating including Deenah and Susan (obviously), Rachel Feinstein, Phoebe Kreutz, Lusterlit and more. We’ll be collecting donations for Earth Justice, a great organization that fights climate change in court.

And then Sunday, August 20th, I’m singing a few songs at the Radigan Round Up at the 12th Street Bar and Grill (which is maybe called Hooked on 12th now?) in Park Slope. The Round Up is put together by Terry Radigan, who will play a few songs, as will I and a couple other guests. It’s always a good time. Come by!

Here’s a picture from last week’s tribute to the Cars at HiFi, which was really fun. (James Preston on bass, Rob Heath on drums, Kirk Schoenherr on guitar). I sang “Magic” and “All Mixed Up.”
